Browns v. Bears observations

The Browns had a double digit comeback to beat the Bears 20–17 and improve to 9–5 on the season, clinching another winning season under Kevin Stefanski. Below are my observations from the game.

  • Well this one was tougher than I thought it would be. Credit the Bears for playing hard and making huge plays on defense to try and win the game. Again another week where multiple Browns turnovers led to the vast majority of their opponents points. Scrap away the turnovers the Bears would have had 3 points today. Anyways, a win is a win, however the Browns do it.
  • Good on Joe Flacco to keep a level head and conduct game tying and winning drives. The pass to Amari Cooper to tie it up was incredible. The pass to Njoku to get into game winning FG position was also great. He did enough and was given a lot of opportunities to change the outcome and he did so. I think if DTR did this the game would be over, even Watson may have been dicey as well. A level headed veteran is still the key piece for the Browns.
  • The 3rd pick Flacco threw was just horrible cause Njoku was wide open immediately up the middle. Flacco throws that early and it might have been a TD if not a long pay down inside the 5. His first was a wrong route by Tillman, the second was just a crazy defensive play by the Bears. Just a rough outing for most of the game but Flacco took his chances and got it done. Just awesome!
  • How about that defense man?! They just keep on coming. Mo Hurst out, well Shelby Harris comes in and makes plays. D’Anthony Bell primarily a special teams guy, with some big plays and the final interception to seal the game. Other guys stood up, then at the end, when they needed him, Myles goes nuts and does his thing. Just an great overall performance by a unit that’s been banged up as well but finds a way.
  • Game balls — Njoku, Cooper, JOK (god he’s been playing insane lately), D’Anthony Bell (made several great plays filling in) and Dustin Hopkins hitting the game winner and being ever so reliable.
  • Now that ending was — — holy shit…that could’ve turned real bad real quick. Guess it was the epitome of the game for the Bears WRs not being able to hang onto the football. But hey I’ll take all of that. Browns have gone through so much shit and be on the receiving end of all horrific plays, I’d like to enjoy being on the other side.
  • Looking forward, 3 more games, Texans/Jets/Bengals. Texans will still be tough, Jets will play hard but don’t have a QB, and Bengals will continue to fight and scrap their way in. Two wins out of final three will be nice. If Browns can hold onto top wild card I think they will have a favorable matchup. The division is still there, especially if Jags knock off Ravens. Control their own destiny and Browns will be in good shape. Just gotta stay healthy enough and see what happens. This team doesn’t quit and that’s scary in the NFL. No reason the Browns should have won today, but they did! GO BROWNS!
