Browns v. Bears observations

The Browns beat the Bears 26–6 in a defense heavy game that led to some ugly offense for a period of time, well for the Bears it was the whole time. Browns clawed through way through and got on the better side of the win column, at 2–1. Below are some observations from the game

  • Baker had a bad game, not being facetious or trolling. He did. Took bad sacks, never had team ready for the 4th down plays early in 1st quarter, over threw two WIDE open guys that would have led to TDs, and overall just never had command of the game. The best thing he did was not turnover the ball (unless you count the 4th down stops). Either way, this was his worst game in awhile. Browns survived but still, something to watch.
  • Kareem Hunt was MVP of the game, and Myles too. Those guys came to play and Myles called the defense out and they answered the bell. Now granted, they went against a rookie QB and shitty play calling, but still, dominate and they did. Hunt saved the Browns offense, the big run TD he had where it looked like he was going to lose 4 yards and then he scored was incredible. He stepped up and coming at such a bargain, Browns were fortunate to have him today.
  • Browns offensive line stunk again, sure they did better with the run game later on, but pass protection was abysmal. Maybe the Bears front line is really good? I didn’t see or hear anything about that front being so formidable. It looked like they couldn’t do the basic concepts of blocking. Concerning to say the last, because it happened last week too against an inferior opponent. Schedule is getting tougher now, so we will see how things go.
  • Chubb was okay today think he missed some running lanes and tried to cut back too much. Granted there were plenty of times he had nowhere to go, but I thought while he had 80+ yards it wasn’t his best game or good game. Hunt helped a brother out today and that’s what makes the Browns so tough.
  • I think Justin Fields will be good in the league. He’s just not supported well and has a coach who wants to be fired. There’s no other explanation. There is nothing for Fields to work with and there were no adjustments by Bears to try to fake out the Browns over pursuit of rushing the passer (which they did and Bears couldn’t figure out). Matt Nagy needs to go and someone who is an actual QB developer needs to come in and push this team. Their defense balled out really until the last quarter and the offense looked like a MAC team against a Big 10 team. That’s my Bears rant.
  • The Browns go on the road next to face the Vikings, Stefanki’s old stomping grounds. Should be an interesting game not only for the Stefanski nostalgia and that the Vikings are a good team and the competition kicks up a notch or two. Browns have plenty to fix on offense, continue to build on momentum with defense, and play smart the whole game. Oh yah, and they found a kicker!!! Go Chase McLaughlin….you might be the real MVP actually. GO BROWNS!!
