Browns v. Rams observations

The Browns completely fell apart late in the game…again…and lost to the Rams 36–19 and fell to 7–5. Below are my observations from the game

  • Joe Flacco actually played well in this game, it was begat by drops like every other Browns QB, but he was far from the problem, until his ill fated interception. Weird playcall at that time and the second week in a row the Browns make a bizarre play call late in the game with the score close, it fails, and they proceed to get crushed the rest of the game. But anyways, Flacco is the Browns QB the rest of the season.
  • The Browns defense isn’t good anymore. I thought they would regress, but there’s not pressure, no turnovers, no big stops unless the other team drops a pass. Losing Ward sucks, but the secondary shouldn’t have been this bad. Making some random rookie look like an All-Star is back to typical Browns play. Start asking the tough questions at Schwartz, the honeymoon is now officially over. This defense was supposed to be lights out and give our offense a chance. It has sucked for the last two weeks.
  • The special teams is having trouble. Hopkins missing an extra point and then everything going to shit afterwards. The return game is still a lot to be desired and the punting is okay.
  • Stefanski has had two weeks in a row where his team lost its marbles in the 4th quarter on the road. Is this a sign of things to come? Maybe going back home for two games will calm guys down, get things on track and keep this time in the hunt in the WC. Either way, the Browns have played poorly on the road this year and these last two games appear to be a reflection of how this team approaches road games and handles certain situations. It’s scary to think even if they make the playoffs they might have to play on the road, then what? Can they actually win or just implode?
  • I think getting back home will help this team. They have been great there, the only loss being v. Baltimore when they decided to scratch Watson late and just not prep DTR. So two wins the next two weeks, Jags and Bears and team sits 9–5 with three left. Bears/Jets/Bengals are the winnable games. Jags are tough but maybe at home they get it. Texans will be tough on the road for reasons mentioned above. 10–11 wins should do it, but Browns gotta get focused. The good news is, Flacco appears to be set and if the Browns can have a strong run game with his keen passing, they have a shot. AND if the defense can get its shit together, the Browns will be in good hands. Team controls its own destiny and needs to reset everything now, 3/5 games are at home…gotta get it done and one road game is against a crap team. GO BROWNS!!
