Buckeyes and Browns observations — big weekend games!!

Such a huge weekend with another slate of college football and of course the NFL starting (at least tonight) but majority on Sunday. Had to break out a blog and share thoughts on both teams. Lets start with the Bucks!

  • I get this weird sense, despite it being a more challenging opponent, the Buckeyes are going to roll in this game. A couple of factors, one, its a home game with fans; two, the early start is going to impact Oregon more than they let on; three, Oregon’s best defender and player might be out, if not playing at half effort; finally, I think Ryan Day was pissed about the overall performance from last week, especially with the defense and constant rotations on both sides of ball and wants to prove a point.
  • The press conferences were odd earlier this week as Kerry Coombs claimed defense played alright considering injuries to starters, yet when Day was asked he politely disagreed. Really believe Day is basically done with crappy defensive performances and wants a better defense and execution. He knows the scoring will be there on offense, but wants the defense to be dominant.
  • The last point in original bullet is why I think this will be an ‘ass kicking’. Day, like Urban, always tries to prove a point. Like did this latest victory not satisfy everyone?’ OK — check this out. I don’t think this will be like 59–0 but think more like 52–17 range. Big statement game.
  • Really seeing how CJ Stroud looks in first home game and his comfort level. Think he gained confidence in 2nd half of last game, be interesting if that keeps up, or his nerves get to him again.
  • Wouldn’t be surprised if running back rotation is just Miyan Williams and Trey Henderson. Unless they trust Teague I don’t think he will see much.
  • Also think overall there will be tighter rotations everywhere, unless game really gets out of hand. But I think Day will treat this like a quasi ‘playoff game’ knowing there are two cupcake opponents coming up with Tulsa and Akron, where a lot of guys will get some run and opportunities.
  • The Browns-Chiefs is really getting everyone hyped. Also it being a 425p game will make for an anxious fan base ready for something special. Obviously worst case scenario is Browns look uncomfortable and/or can’t handle moment again. I doubt that will happen at all, unless there is an injury or something.
  • I do think there will be some hiccups on defense. Too many new guys on one side of ball and all those changes will lead to some breakdowns. Think offense carries load early one and things start to even up in second half.
  • Watching last year’s matchup, the Browns really made a lot of mistakes on offense that probably could have led to points. Chubb dropping passes, Baker getting caught in pocket too long, not enough touches to Hunt early on. Of course the Higgins fumble touch-back hurt, but the little things that helped the Browns, they messed up. Not denying Chiefs played well, but watching game again, many self-inflicted wounds.
  • This has making of a shoot-out game. I don't think either defense will be able to consistently stop opposing offense.
  • Not going to freak out if Browns lose, Chiefs are real deal and again Super Bowl contenders….BUT…if the Browns win…FULL CHUBB BABY!!! LETS GO!!
