Cleveland Browns 2021 Predictions
We’re here!!! It’s prediction season! Unbelievable! We come into a very highly anticipated season for the Cleveland Browns and while part of the hype makes me nervous based on past results, I think this team is in much better shape. The previous hype seasons, there was always something lingering about the true talent of the team, maybe us fans are over our heads in ‘homerville’, and it seems too good to be true. But this time around, while there is hype, the talent is legit, yes fans are excited but for good reason, and the team is just better from players to coaches to personnel in general. It LOOKS and FEELS different.
So without further ado, as I had done in the past on different mediums (maybe a pun) there will be a brief explanation for each matchup and a result Win/Loss. Some of the later games will obviously be tougher to gauge since crazy things can and will happen, but the schedule itself has its challenges but the Browns will be in good shape to get back to the playoffs once more.
Browns v. Chiefs — WIN
At times the Browns do seek revenge and achieve success (Titans and Steelers from last year come to mind) and I keep reverting back to those games and others when assessing this matchup. Yes its in KC and the Chiefs are still a juggernaut, but in a small sample size, Stefanski and co. have done well to adjust in second matchups and usually have won (granted the Ravens was a loss last year, but still the defense sucked). I think the Browns are tired of always losing to start the season, I think they are tired of hearing the same old crap. It just feels like despite being a close/crazy/competitive game, the Browns pull this off. I won’t be mad if they lose this game, KC is still tough and the AFC goes through them still. But man if they pull off that win, buckle up!
Texans v. Browns — WIN
Browns go from best team in league to one of the worst in consecutive weeks. This is the home opener so I’m sure if my prediction holds in reality, First Energy stadium will be insane. Sometimes playing crap teams can be defeating in a way and hype isn't there, but not so here. I think the Browns methodically crush their way through this game. They basically did last year in a monsoon, hopefully weather more on the sunny side. Who knows if Texans pull trigger on Watson with other teams. They got plenty more problems and have lot of league writers thinking they are tanking.
Bears v. Browns -WIN
Depending on if Andy Dalton falters badly, could see a Justin Fields appearance, but I think Coach Matt Nagy is trying to outsmart himself out of a job and will still have the good ole Red Rifle under center. This should be another methodical win the for the Browns. Another home game, another hyped crowd. Just get the job done and go home. I don’t recall if Browns have ever gone 3–0 to start season, but lets just say they do here, why not?!
Browns at Vikings — WIN
Might be tough matchup on the road as Vikings are interesting team with decent offense and defense. I have gone back and forth on this one, but can’t really see Kirk ‘Unvaccinated’ Cousins beating an upgraded defense who is now in their first full month together. This may be first game outside of Texans where we see true fruits of makeshift defense. I do think the offense carries this team for most of the season, but a whole new look defense will take time. This will be their game to shine. If I were Browns player and sacked Cousins I would pretend to ‘give myself a shot’ even if taunting penalty is called. It is well deserved for that dope.
Browns at Chargers — LOSS
I think this will be a tough matchup for Browns. West coast game, Chargers are still good team despite firing coach from a year ago. Brandon Staley, new coach in town will have that defense playing well like he did with Rams. Herbert, Chargers QB is on similar trajectory as Baker so will be a good QB matchup. Again any NFL game is a toss up each week and I guess if Browns lose to Chiefs maybe they take this game, but I wouldn't be surprised if team finally loses here.
Cardinals at Browns — WIN
Rematch from 2019 when Browns straight up quit on Freddie Kitchens. I’m not sure what to make of Cardinals. They got some decent FA pickups, JJ Watt leading the pack, but unsure if Kyler Murray is truly the guy, if Kingsbury can still coach at NFL level. Again a rematch and revenge game I’m sure for the Browns players of 2019 and I think Baker will get one against former teammate.
Broncos at Browns — WIN
Sometimes bad Broncos teams beat the Browns and I’m trying to be careful with their tenuous QB situation not to get too overconfident. However, I’m not sure Broncos are in a good spot here as a team and even as we near the halfway point of season, I think this is another methodical win for the Browns. Maybe something crazy happens, could be one of those surprising losses at home, but I just can’t see it, team is too talented.
Steelers at Browns — WIN
Really think teams will split regular season again this year and Browns take this one at home. We will definitely see if Big Ben really ‘rehabilitated’ himself after embarrassing loss in playoffs and ending to the season. Steelers at a crossroads this season, do they fall below Browns or still maintain being contenders. Should still be a great game, but Browns are now in their heads, that playoff loss will still loom leading to this matchup.
Browns at Bengals — WIN
See Browns just rolling here right now as Bengals just appear to be two steps still. Burrow isn’t protected still, Ja’Marr Chase will be in his own head and their defense never got better from last year. As we saw, Baker tore them up really in both games, especially the latter. I’m sure the Burrow v. Baker matchup will always be marquee but Bengals have a coach over his head and this could get ugly.
Browns at Pats — WIN
Pats have rookie QB and still trying to find identity in year 2 after Brady. Again have this a toss up game, but think Browns continue to roll and won’t let a rook beat them, even on the road. Team is just riding high and get by in what I think will be a close one.
Lions at Browns — WIN
Lions seem to be a team unsure of what they want to be or really do. They downgraded at QB level with Stafford leaving and they have Jared Goff. This could either be a bad loss that Browns overlook or they just crush it. I’m going latter for this one. Keep in mind though two straight with Ravens coming up. This is one of those weird games where Browns could get themselves in trouble looking ahead.
Browns at Ravens — LOSS
As I stated with Steelers think the Browns split with Ravens too. Yes JK Dobbins is out, but Ravens still have a solid running game and great defense. Browns have historically struggled in Baltimore and this might be game they lose that kind of puts them in their place.
Ravens at Browns — WIN
Weirdest scheduling I’ve ever seen and doubt this happens again. See Browns winning this, revenge again in rematch. Always going to be a tough matchup with this team but they pull it off.
Raiders at Browns — WIN
Have I talked about revenge games yet, I do not recall?? Oh yeah this is a team the Browns lost too and what I considered last season to be their worst loss. Browns take care of business here. Count the Vegas Raiders as another team that is in disarray. This late in season who knows what might happen, but figure Browns start last quarter of season with a win and keep atop the standings.
Browns at Packers — LOSS
A Christmas Day game!! This will be pretty cool and a nice matchup in Lambeau. Think Browns fall here, Packers are still good and Rodgers, despite his issues with Packers management is such a great quarterback. Close one, but see Packers getting ahead on this one.
Browns at Steelers — LOSS
Browns may fall here — again I predicted a split but maybe they sweep this stupid team who knows. Just trying to be somewhat responsible here and objective in a sense.
Bengals at Browns — WIN
Browns close out season again with a victory and I think even with four losses clinch the division. Bengals are in a dumpster and think there will be changes going on with that organization. With division win, Browns have opportunity for a possible bye in the playoffs as well.
So 13–4 prediction, think that’s reasonable. Possible some wins/losses will fall in different areas but overall Browns have pretty decent schedule and a lot of winnable games. Stay injury free, continue to get better and who knows maybe they go nuts and become the new Chiefs. Hope everyone enjoys the predictions and of course the season. GO BROWNS!!
