NFL conference championships observations

The Bengals stunningly came back to beat the Chiefs and the Rams barely held on to beat the 49ers. It is Rams v. Bengals, which I’m sure many had on their prediction list. Below are my observations from the games

  • I still can’t get over KC and their collapse. One of the weirdest ones I’ve seen in awhile. They went from dominating one half to completely disappearing and looking like a non-playoff team. Some may say ‘well look at the Bengals defense’ or ‘give the Bengals D credit’. I think its part KC being too cute on offense and the Bengals taking advantage, just barely.
  • The Chiefs not electing to kick the field goal before half ended up being more telling than usual. It really felt like they could do anything and they also felt no matter what they could do anything. That thinking eventually did them in.
  • Credit to Joe Burrow and the Bengals, while it annoys me another AFC North team is in the Super Bowl, he is showing what a great QB he is and the Bengals are in good hands.
  • I knew this Rams-49ers game would be tight, they are divisional opponents and just recently played a few weeks ago. The Rams were always the better team, bu the 49ers just play good enough to hang around. I wasn’t too surprised by the outcome and the comeback by the Rams. I think they knew they were better and just clamped down at the end. Another great game to a great playoffs.
  • 49ers have some decisions to make with Jimmy G. He actually was outplaying Stafford until late and really statistically with QB rating and all he was better. I think though the 49ers didn’t draft Trey Lance in top 5 for Jimmy G to stay around longer. He will either be part of a trade or get tested in free agency. He’s a solid QB who did enough to get his team this far. It will be very interesting to see what happens with him.
  • The Rams put ALL their chips in the middle this season and its paid off so far. Another Super Bowl appearance and possibly one they can win. Going after Stafford was obviously the big one, but getting Von Miller, claiming Eric Weddle for the postseason. Even OBJ turned things around. They knew they had a window and they went all in. See if everything cashes out in two weeks.
  • There is a lot of talk about these two teams related to the Browns, because of course there is. You have the Bengals making it to the Super Bowl two years removed from having the top pick. Now its the Bengals who are better than the Browns in the division. Another AFC QB the Browns have to get through (ironically Burrow has NEVER beaten the Browns). Then there is OBJ with the Rams and the Rams going ALL in to get a Super Bowl.
  • These games I’m sure will lead to some extra discussions with top Browns brass. I now think there will be major changes from ownership on player personnel and not making excuses about injuries and leadership. The Browns are going to make big decisions on major areas of the team that will shock many people either way. I look forward to March/April time frames.
